I left her to do the research on what was actually
going on while I took the dog out. The dog, too, was up early and wanting to go
out hours before she usually wants to do that. Agitated, I guess.
We, the dog and I, went out the door into the pre-dawn
darkness and made our way to the end of the driveway and turned north to go up
the sidewalk…
That's interesting. I don't have anything I couldn't really part with. I'm pretty good at tossing things on a regular basis. I don't even have photo albums that are precious to me. I suppose that's a lack of having a family (or something like that). If I were to put together a "to go" bag, it would mostly just be clothes and maybe the current book I'm reading so that I'd have some entertainment when the power is out.
ReplyDeleteI've never really been much of a collector, unless you count animals. All of my important writing is backed up to the cloud, so my 'go bag' would just be a large burlap sack, comically filled to the brim with (probably fighting) cats and dogs.
ReplyDeleteABftS: It's hard to back paper notebooks up to the cloud. I've been trying for a while, but they just keep coming back down.
DeleteSpeaking of cats, we did learn in all of this that pillow cases work well as makeshift cat carriers. Not from doing it or anything, thankfully.
Your mistake is trying to upload during a fire. Try during a hurricane. Then they definitely won't come down.
DeleteMy cat actually likes hanging out in pillow cases. She'll burrow in there, push out the pillow, and just hang out for fun, but she's also the most un-cat-like cat I've ever met. I'm not sure how a regular cat would respond to that.
This isn't one of those 'life hacks', is it?
PRO TIP: when not in use, you can store your cat comfortably in a pillow case!
ABftS: Mine likes boxes and paper grocery bags. We haven't tried pillow cases but, maybe, now I will.
DeleteThat is fucking scary. I'm not sure what else to say except it's terrifying that you and your family had to figure out what to put in your go bags.
ReplyDeleteJeanne: Well, it wasn't so bad. I mean that in that no one got flustered trying to figure out what to pack. Everyone had stuff read within a few minutes, and none of the contents changed after that.
DeleteGlad you had the sense to be ready to evacuate. Some people wouldn't. It sounds like you didn't ultimately have to. Glad you were far enough away. Stay safe.
