Trinity 2015: Part Two -- The Critters

I took what is probably an inordinate amount of pictures of... well, I took a lot of pictures of bugs this year. No, I don't really know why other than that we didn't go to any new places, and I wanted to get pictures of things I hadn't taken pictures of before. So you're getting bugs. And some lizards. And, yes, if you think those lizards are doing something, that's because those lizards are doing something. The dude lizard even did a series of push-ups before hand to both impress the lady lizard and get ready for the deed.

However, it's still the dragonflies I find the most impressive. Having grown up in a place where I was always finding their shells, I never once saw a dragonfly "hatch," so this was a cool experience even if we only found them after they'd emerged. My son brought the shells home, even.

So, without further ado, the bugs of Trinity!

  1. You know, I'm the person who always walks into a room just as the animals on the television start doing it.(One reason why I don't like watching animal shows.) Now I can't blog without seeing it. Thanks.
The dragonfly shots are rather amazing.

    1. JKIR,F!: I think that thing on my shoe was some kind of bee; at least, that's what it looked like when it was flying around. But it was shiny and green.

  3. Awesome pictures. I love dragonflies. I'm like the Disney Princess of bugs. They always come land on me, peacefully, and study me before gliding on their way. Dragonflies especially. I'd like to think of it as a good luck kind of thing, and not a "you smell like food" kind of thing.

    1. ABftS: Dragonflies are often associated with good luck. When I was a kid, it was considered good luck if a dragonfly landed on the tip of your fishing pole while you were fishing.

  4. Lizard porn! We do have a garter snake hanging around the house this year but haven't yet seen any reptilian hanky panky.

    1. TAS: I think the lizards are the first reptilian hanky panky I've ever seen. However, I've seen a lot of amphibian hanky panky.

  5. Cool! I love dragon flies. How lucky you got so many pictures of them. The lizards are so hilarious. Too bad you didn't get a pic of him doing the push ups.

    1. Jeanne: Oh, I probably did, but you can't tell that from the pictures.

  6. Those are some really fabulous pictures. I'm jealous. I love the dragonflies, but I think my favorite was the one where you can see the water bug's shadow.

I've tried to get pictures of dragonflies. I'm not fast enough, or patient enough, or something.

    1. Briane: I do like that one in particular. I worked to get the shadow to be visible the way I wanted it to be.

As for the dragonflies, it was luck. They were just hanging there drying out after "hatching." Or whatever it's called.
