So I looked it up and indeed, these squirrels are bigger than the ones I'm used to, though ours have longer tails. The beach squirrel - officially the California ground squirrel - maxes out at 30cm for the body, 15 for the tail, 26 oz in weight. Our eastern gray squirrels run to 30, 25, 21 oz.

ReplyDeleteThen our American red squirrels are significantly smaller than either: 35 cm including the tail, 8.8 oz.
