About writing. And reading. And being published. Or not published. On working on being published. Tangents into the pop culture world to come. Especially about movies. And comic books. And movies from comic books.
Rain, right? It's raindrops hitting water on the ground. That's my guess.
In reply to your response to my comment on The God Thing: I'm disillusioned with religion, too. I'm not sure, right now, what my conception of God is but I know that I disagree with anyone who says they know, so I'm probably philosophically in your neighborhood.
The thing is we really can't have a conception of "God" as a being or a thing. Anyone who is powerful enough to have created the universe is beyond our comprehension in any but the most abstract type of thinking. It's like trying to picture five dimensions. So we have to try to make God representative; he made us in his image, etc., and try to explain God through comparisons to us.
I thought actually you did really well in getting outside of humanity in your Angels stories, which I have to post reviews of too I realize, so maybe you could work up a concept of God that's not more or less "A Really Powerful Smart Human."
I mean, what if God started the whole universe and then stopped paying attention to it, at all? And because we instinctively understand that something or someone must have put this all into motion, we decided to call that God, and then started telling stories that made us feel better about "God" and that became religion, because we didn't want to believe that we'd just been left on our own like last year's toy sets from Xmas?
Is that any less likely than any other religion? It's less comforting, I know, but any argument about faith seems to me as likely as any other. Heck, for all we know, there really WERE Greek Gods and still are.
Anyway, just more rambling. I hope I'm right about the picture.
I have some more Angel stories on the way. One that's been finished for... months? It's just not typed. And two more that are in progress.
One of the big problems with religion right now (maybe always but I know right now) is that it almost completely about comfort. At least in the US. That's what the whole prosperity doctrine is about, making people feel good so that they'll come to church and tithe more. Tithe more to get more. But no one does get more from that. That whole thing makes me sick, and it has the "Church" in a strangle hold.
Yeah, what is it? I'm going to guess, based on the upper left corner, this is a window and it's some extreme frost buildup.
ReplyDeleteABftS: Yep, ice on the car window last winter.
DeleteHow pretty. Too bad it's covering the window or it could stay there forever.
ReplyDeleteThis is like one of those pictures that would be on the back of a magazine where us readers were supposed to guess what it was.
ReplyDeleteFamiliar sight around here. You get frost in California?
ReplyDeleteTAS: Yeah, occasionally. It doesn't snow where we are, but we do get below freezing temps. Mostly at night, but still...

Briane: So not rain... See the above responses.
