Okay, so any of you who have been around for any length of time will know that I really don't do cover reveals or book promos or any of that stuff. Generally speaking, it's because I don't want to support a book I haven't read and which may turn out to be something I wouldn't have supported if I'd read it first. But, see, that has more to do with not having read anything by the authors who usually ask me to do that kind of stuff. I just can't pre-support a book by what amounts to an unknown quantity no matter how I feel about the actual person. Sorry, but you can be a great human being and still be a lousy writer, so I might think the world of you and still think you should find another line of work.
None of that is the case with Briane Pagel. At this point, I've been reading his stuff for years and like nearly all of what he produces. I loved Eclipse, and the farther away I get from Up So Down, the more I like it. That to say that I feel confident in announcing Pagel's new book: Codes
It's currently available for pre-order from Golden Fleece Press. Or it's supposed to be. I don't actually see a purchase link, but it is listed in their upcoming books section. Maybe it's just not live yet? Anyway, hop over to Thinking the Lions to follow Briane and get all the updates about his new book.
You could still come a cropper though - this could be the one lousy read, not saying it is, but that's what would happen to me.
ReplyDeleteJo: Sure, that's true. Some of my favorite authors (like Lawhead) have tossed out some less than awesome books, but the track record makes it worth the risk.
DeleteI think I've said before that if you're so darned worry about it, just put a disclaimer saying that this post should not be construed as an endorsement of the product in question. Then you don't have to worry about your precious "integrity" being besmirched.
ReplyDeleteCome on, PT: all writers -- and all of us in our lives -- have to worry about the image we project. One thing I admire about Andrew is that he doesn't do phony reviews or endorsements. The fact that he stuck his neck out on this means a lot to me. It means even more because he doesn't just do it for everyone.
DeleteBriane: Thank you!
DeleteHere I thought I'd just comment to thank you, and instead I see a battlefield brewing on this post. So thanks for doing it!
ReplyDeleteJo is of course right -- but I GUARANTEE this book is awesome. Not least because you, Andrew, inspired the book in an offhand comment, but because it is possibly the only and certainly the first thing I've ever written that has caused Sweetie to want to read it. I'm making her wait for the actual hard copy book.
I appreciate the support. And I'm glad you're coming around to "Up So Down." I think that book has merit. I go through times where I love and then hate things I write. Right now I love the book. It has some things to say. That's what I try for.
CODES, though, definitely has a lot to say.
Briane: Well, I liked Up So Down when I read it; I do think I like it more, now. When I think back at it, I really like the woven-ness you gave it. It's an interesting read.
DeleteIt's nice to feel confident about an author.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
Janie: It is.
DeleteI like what I've read of Brian's work, too. Also, from the comments he leaves here, he seems like a genuinely good guy, so it's great to see him getting some support.
ReplyDeleteGood luck, Briane! It's on my TBR list!
Alex: Briane is a genuinely good guy and one of the most supportive people you can ever hope to have on your side.
DeleteI'll have a review up of the book as soon as I can do it.
Alas, the link is still not live, but I contacted the publisher. :)
