Love this! I am a new follower and fellow campaigner. This is exciting. I am finding so many interesting blogs. I really enjoyed reading through yours.Maeve Frazierhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00788413883600771145noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7658526372996117205.post-32549377113166409112011-08-24T15:06:11.682-07:002011-08-24T15:06:11.682-07:00Well, I don't agree that you have to have time...Well, I don't agree that you have to have time to be able to create, especially if one of the things you are creating -is- time. Most dimensional theories, these days, conclude that beyond the 5th dimension time no longer has any meaning and, thus, would not matter to any beings that existed in any dimension beyond that.

Anyway... I'm not trying to convince you of anything, so I hope it doesn't come off like that. I was a scientist before I was anything else. I mean, it was because of science that I started reading in the first place.Andrew Leonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13964775673414653644noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7658526372996117205.post-87491941730143683262011-08-20T13:16:21.336-07:002011-08-20T13:16:21.336-07:00Thanks for the response Andrew. On the whole scien...Thanks for the response Andrew. On the whole science thing, I really think it depends on what you are willing to digest and understand. Stephen Hawking, Einstein and many others know that gravity affects time. Black holes have gravity in such tremendous concentration that time is warped infinitely. No time passes inside a black hole. The math shows this. Science tells us that the Big Bang is essentially a super-massive black hole...all the matter of the universe collapsed in upon a space smaller than a proton. Before the Big Bang, there is no time at all. Time did not exist. So you have to have "time" in order to have a creator because nothing could be created when there is no time. That's not me...that's math...that's science. But I don't want to argue about it here :) Have a great weekend.Michael Offutt, Phantom Readerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10557969104886174930noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7658526372996117205.post-92171859931054277422011-08-20T12:09:00.206-07:002011-08-20T12:09:00.206-07:00Barbara: Nah, it's not bad. Making a quilt out of your own material has to be the best thing ever, right?

Rusty: I do plenty of experimental cooking, but I don't tend to think of my writing that way. Hmmm...

Rich Mullins did die way too soon. I probably reacted to his death the way people reacted to Lennon's Death.

Shannon: At least with House, I incorporated too many pop culture references to say I wasn't doing a lot of quilting.

Michael: I don't think science can actually disprove the need for a Creator, but that's a whole separate topic.

As for the behavior of "Christians," there's not much I can say. I grew up a Southern Baptist, and the main thing I learned in that experience was that they had become the modern Pharisees, whom Jesus clashed with again and again and were ultimately responsible for his crucifixion. As Mullins said, mostly, they're not bad; they're just wrong.
Unfortunately, I also think many people that call themselves Christians are not. Jesus said that would be the case.
And, then, I think of Gandhi who said, "I would be a Christian except for Christians," which always makes me sad.

It's just really hard to separate the person of Jesus from the people that say they follow Him.Andrew Leonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13964775673414653644noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7658526372996117205.post-78057424690711866402011-08-19T22:28:02.053-07:002011-08-19T22:28:02.053-07:00This guy you talked about sounds like the kind of ...This guy you talked about sounds like the kind of Christian that I honestly could be good friends with and respect. His whole philosophy is one that I agree with and can really admire. In my own personal life, I have never been a man of faith as I feel ultimately that there is no room for God in a universe where science can disprove the need for a Creator. I am a man of science so maybe faith is just not something that I was meant to have. Recently on the Fox News website, they had an interview with an atheist who put forth an opinion on not including a huge cross at ground zero in New York City. It got over 800 negative comments from angry Christians and they had to take down the article because they had gotten so violent. When I read those comments, my face drained of color, and realized how many Christians out there hate me for simply choosing to look at science for my answers instead of unproven doctrine.

Here's an example of the comments that were posted on that website prior to being taken down:

http://atheists.org/blog/2011/07/29/fox-news-facebook-page-on-911-cross-generates-death-threats-against-atheists

That's the source.

Here are choice comments:

"I say kill them all and let them see there is no God". -- 2 likes

Chris Dunn said "I thinly we should hang the leader of that group on the cross with nails through their hands and feet, place a crown of thorns upon their head, RAM a spear through their side all after being whipped and beaten publicly! Just so they can endure what Christ did so they understand the sacrifice behind what that cross symbolizes." --19 people liked this

Tim Allison said "Kill Them".

Eileen Rourke said "Any court or lawyer who takes this case should be hung!!!!! If you look at some of the people who are atheists they are all miserable looking because they don't have any faith in anything. You all should go live in another country. You have taken enough of my rights away."

Anyway...I found these 8000 comments shocking and horrific and honestly, it really affirmed to me how awful religious groups can get.Michael Offutt, Phantom Readerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10557969104886174930noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7658526372996117205.post-52131540388094952042011-08-19T21:17:07.883-07:002011-08-19T21:17:07.883-07:00He sounds like he was a truly good guy.

And like most experimental cooks, I have created some disasters in my time.

I'm always sad about Rich Mullins, he wrote beautiful music and he died way too soon.Rusty Carlhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09887821877521181811noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7658526372996117205.post-80154898623073063232011-08-18T18:11:47.767-07:002011-08-18T18:11:47.767-07:00You know, I've actually never thought about it...You know, I've actually never thought about it that way. What a great analogy! Thanks for sharing. Gosh, I feel like while I'm actually writing the story, I'm weaving. But when I edit and I rip my ms to shreds and piece it back together, I'm quilting.

Is that bad?Bklosshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15445205221951596010noreply@blogger.com
