We saw the Smurfs, and I was surprised not to hate it. I never watched Doogie Howser, but I enjoy NPH's comedic turns these days, and Hank Azaria is always hysterical.Shannon Lawrencehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00934641808195675935noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7658526372996117205.post-50346076986766126312012-01-06T14:40:10.059-08:002012-01-06T14:40:10.059-08:00Rusty: I agree with you about expectations. I went into that one with low expectations and still hated it.

I used to watch the Dungeons and Dragons cartoon, too. Loved it. Especially the wizard. And I SO wanted one of those bows!

ABftS: LOL yeah, I've had those moments. Like when my oldest was into Yu-Gi-Oh! Oh my gosh, how I hated that. But you let them be into the things they're into and hold it over them later. Now, he hates it when I bring up how much he loved Yu-Gi-Oh! hehAndrew Leonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13964775673414653644noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7658526372996117205.post-88690672426438749752012-01-05T06:13:45.128-08:002012-01-05T06:13:45.128-08:00Yeah, based on previews on thought that movie was ...Yeah, based on previews on thought that movie was going to be garbage. But dammit, I like NPH and Hank Azaria.

I can't imagine what it's going to be like when I have kids. You know, when they roll past a movie like Marmaduke or Garfield Part 6, Garfield Gets Diabetes (when will they stop? Garfield wasn't even funny in the 80s), and I think to myself, really, you want to buy this? I thought I raised you better, 4 year old.A Beer for the Showerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17029139745335325356noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7658526372996117205.post-82893685280648088772012-01-04T18:47:47.908-08:002012-01-04T18:47:47.908-08:00Expectations have a huge impact on how much I enjo...Expectations have a huge impact on how much I enjoy something. Which must be why I actually enjoyed Green Lantern and Howard the Duck.

That said, I loved Thundarr the Barbarian. I can still recall the title sequence where the atmosphere got ripped off the earth by that comet. So epic. There was that Dungeons and Dragons cartoon around that time... it was close to then that I started drifting away from saturday morning cartoons. The smurfs were never exactly my thing either, I just didn't watch them though (although I was well aware of them), I didn't have that outright hatred for them.

Still, it's always great to be pleasantly surprised. I'm glad you liked it.Rusty Carlhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09887821877521181811noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7658526372996117205.post-89705973895357842312012-01-04T16:29:21.462-08:002012-01-04T16:29:21.462-08:00Alex: I was way past my TV phase when Coast to Coa...Alex: I was way past my TV phase when Coast to Coast came out. I remember people talking about it, though, and I've seen a clip or two. One day, I'll go back and try to catch them. Maybe.

Grumpy: Robot Chicken is pretty hilarious. I love Seth Green.

Sarah McC: Oh, I know what that kind of thing is like. I lost some early fantasy books for "evilness."

I was a little before He-Man and Thundercats. Not that I didn't watch some He-Man (due to babysitting after school), but I never really liked it. That may deserve a blog post.

J: Yeah, I knew it was Netflix, but I wanted to link it to where anyone could watch it. (I own the DVD.)

Jess: I'm glad it made you smile :) I loved the Chipmunk movie (first one), but, then, I loved the Chipmunks when I was a kid.

Jennifer: Glad I could bring back some childhood magic :)
I like him in How I Met Your Mother, too; although, I've only seen the first season it.

Stephen: I didn't like the owl movie all that much. It was okay, but it was just too much of a rote story except with owls.

bru: I hated that Smurf song SO much when I was kid. My brother sang it ALL the time.

M.J.: It's definitely worth a try as a rental.
I should work up a "complete" cartoon list at some point...

Michael: I've enjoyed most of the various iterations of the Spider-Man cartoons. Animaniacs, though, which was way after my childhood, will probably remain my favorite cartoon ever.
Clone Wars has probably transcended the realm of a mere cartoon for me. We're only 2 episodes into season 3. >sigh< Just too much going on to get everyone in front of the TV at once.

Roland: Thank you so much! Glad to have you aboard.
Spaaace... Cartoon Network and copycats like that put an end to the networks airing Saturday morning cartoons for the kiddies.

But there are cartoons available all the time now. Now kids can watch cartoons 24/7 on cartoon network, disney and nick.....it takes all of the magic away as far as I am concerned. Anyway thanks for that. I am a big NPH fan i love him on the show How I met your mother. I have not however watched the movie The Smurfs yet. Thanks for the review I will check it out and maybe even force my son to take five minutes from playing video games and watch it with me!Jenniferhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16232979489927013323noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7658526372996117205.post-21144550239831697522012-01-03T09:00:43.742-08:002012-01-03T09:00:43.742-08:00Ha!
